ABOUT US

The Craft Guild of Dallas was founded in 1948 to provide instruction and studios for artists and craftspersons while providing opportunities to exhibit and promote their work.  Since that time, the Guild has changed locations a few times, and now occupies over 7,000 square feet of space in North Dallas.  Because of our unique set-up, long-standing commitment to providing instruction, and outstanding line-up of classes, workshops, and instructors, students come both from the metroplex and beyond for classes.  Workshops typically include participants from Texas and the surrounding states.

The Guild has fully equipped studios for clay, bookbinding, and metals, and provides studio space for painting, drawing, fiber, and other media classes and workshops as well.

There are six “sessions” of classes per calendar year. Each session lasts from 5 to 9 weeks, and classes typically meet one time per week for 3 to 3-1/2 hours per class for the duration of the session.   Classes are conducted in the morning, afternoon and evening during the week, and some classes are also scheduled on Saturdays or Sundays.

In addition to ongoing classes, workshops with guest artists are conducted on the weekends.  The Guild has also expanded its “Master Classes” featuring nationally-recognized guest artists who conduct intensive workshops over a period of 2 to 7 days.  These usually include an evening reception and lecture, open to the public.  Master Class participants often have an opportunity to  purchase work directly from the guest artist, as well as obtain autographed copies of recent books and publications.

The Guild is managed by the Executive Director, who operates under the direction of the Board of Directors. Departments are led by co-chairs, assisted by workshop coordinators.  We rely heavily on the contributions and talents of our members, who provide their time and talents for the maintenance and support of the studios, departments and special events, as well as financial support.

The Guild operates as a 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation.  Membership is open to the public, and annual dues offset our operating costs.  Levels of Membership are as follows
